The Atma Approach

Food Allergies

A positive IgE is a snapshot, not the story.

Why avoidance doesn't rebuild the barrier that let the reaction start in the first place.

By Dr. Neela Sandal

The short answer: When food allergies care stops at IgE testing and avoidance, it can miss root causes such as a failed gut barrier, collapsed oral tolerance, and delayed IgG food reactions. The Atma Approach is to find and treat those causes.

How Does Mainstream Medicine Treat Food Allergies?

Mainstream medicine's approach to food allergies is avoid and carry epinephrine.

IgE positive? Never eat it. Borderline panel? Maybe an antihistamine and a shrug. Adult-onset reactions get treated like a character flaw. The gut that started letting proteins through is not in the plan.

What Does Mainstream Medicine Miss About Food Allergies?

Commonly missed root causes of food allergies include a failed gut barrier, collapsed oral tolerance, and delayed IgG food reactions.

An IgE is a snapshot of sensitization. It is not the reason the barrier failed or why oral tolerance collapsed. Avoidance prevents today's reaction. It does not rebuild a gut lining, calm mast cells, or ask why a food you ate for twenty years suddenly became a threat. Further, IgE isn't the only type of immune response you can develop to foods — most doctors don't look at the IgG responses that cause delayed food sensitivity reactions.

The Atma Approach looks at you as a unique person. Why did your tolerance to that food break?

Has your doctor ever talked to you about these commonly missed root causes?

Commonly Missed Root Causes

•A damaged intestinal barrier letting intact proteins meet immune cells in the wrong place
•Mast-cell and histamine overload that turns a mild sensitivity into a full reaction
•Skin barrier failure in kids — eczema first, food allergy second — treated as two departments
•Dysbiosis and low secretory IgA, so the mucosal "peace treaty" with food never holds
•Antacid overuse changing how proteins are digested before they ever meet the immune system
•Cross-reactivity with pollens that makes spring look like a new food allergy
•Nutrient and enzyme gaps that leave food half-broken and more antigenic
