We Care for Caregivers

What is Caregiver Burnout?

Taking care of another person can be exhausting. When another person depends on you for their well-being, it is easy to neglect yourself in order to meet that person’s needs. This can lead to burnout.

A person experiencing burnout may withdraw emotionally from the person they are caring for, or from other friends and family members. She or he may have feelings of irritability, hopelessness, helplessness, and disinterest in life. The caregiver may feel emotional or physical exhaustion, and the caregiver’s health may suffer.

A caregiver may even start to resent the person he or she is caring for, even though he or she loves that person.
